8 Silken Movements / Ba Duan Jin
Preparatory Posture
Key Points:
-
The entire body should be naturally relaxed.
-
Feel as if the crown of the head is gently reaching upward, with the chin slightly tucked in, keeping the upper body upright.
-
Take care to avoid raising or shrugging the shoulders.
-
Keep the thumb parallel to the index finger, with the remaining three fingers slightly gathered. The fingertips should oppose each other.
-
Engage the buttocks slightly. Ensure the knees do not bend forward beyond the toes. The toes point forward, with the feet parallel.
Purpose of the Preparatory Posture:
This posture serves to calm the spirit, regulate the breath, pacify the internal organs, and align the posture. It harmonizes the "Three Regulations" (body, breath, and mind) in preparation for practice.
